George began as a teenager mowing lawns for neighbors. After high school, in 1974, he formed a lawn maintenance business. The experience was good, but he desired to endeavor into design/build.
In 1977 he moved to Sea Island, GA for two months to assist his father in his specialty retail shop at the Cloister Hotel. This provided tremendous business experience for a young man, yet convinced him the outdoors was where he wished to work.
Shortly after returning, he took an opportunity to manage a design/build firm in Suffolk County, Long Island. For two years this apprenticeship laid the foundation to the formation of Borab Landscape in 1979.
George is a largely self-taught, talented designer. During his 40 years in business he has honed his skills by collaborating with creative landscape architects and architects. He learned early on even reluctant clients need to be a partner in the design process. Extensive travel to Europe and through the Americas has enriched his design sensibilities. He has an obsessive attention to detail and has always valued quality projects vs. quantity.
George’s relationships with high end architects and builders has produced the gorgeous and diverse portfolio illustrated on BorabLandscape.com. He believes in the power of word of mouth referrals and understands it can take decades to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it. He leads through example, communication and team building. Constant education and familiarity of new products and processes is an investment in his continued success.
To balance the working life, George enjoys cooking and entertaining with his wife, Mary, for family, friends, and now his grandchild! After 50 years he still has a passion for surfing and travel.
